An attempt by some criminals to rob one of the old generation banks in Ondo State was successfully foiled by crack detectives over the weekend.
It was gathered that the thieves had dug over 15 meters underground tunnel into the bank premises from the fence which is behind the bank at Alagbaka area in Akure metropolis. It was a work in the progress and the tunnel would have been dug directly into the banking hall if it had not been discovered by the detectives.

The Commissioner of Police, Mike Ogboru, said:
It was the banks’ surveillance squad that discovered the long tunnel dug by the suspected armed robbers behind the Ado/Owo Road branch of the bank.
According to Ogbodu who conducted newsmen around the scene, items recovered include shovel, diggers and other tools, biscuits, water sachets and soft drinks.
The police chief advised management of banks to be conscious of happenings in and around their environment.
