85-year-old woman shreds N206 million because she didn't want to leave it to her relatives

The grandmother shredded €950,000 in cash. She also cut up her savings accounts books before her death in an Austrian retirement home. The cut up money and bank documents were only discovered after she died.

State prosecutor, Erich Habitzl, confirmed the discovery but said there was nothing he could do for the relatives. The deputy head of the Australia's central bank's cashier division, the Oesterreichische Nationalbank (OeNB), however said it will replace the money.

Friedrich Hammerschmidt told Kurier Daily: "If the heirs can only find shreds of money and if the origin of the money is assured, then of course it can all be replaced. If we didn't pay out the money then we would be punishing the wrong people."...
